Top Three Places To Check For Mold In Your Business

2/10/2021 (Permalink)

During Spring here in Middle Tennessee, we all expect heavy rainstorms and thunderstorms, as well as the occasional tornadoes. We also know that humid conditions will create the conditions that are just right for a colony of mold to establish itself in a commercial property. There are some areas that are most vulnerable to issues of this kind, and the top three places to check for mold in your business will be:

Lavatories

With all the piping installed here to conduct water, this is an obvious place to begin your mold inspections. Every dark corner that can become damp without notice is going to be vulnerable, so make sure you are looking under and behind fixtures, cabinetry, and closets. If there is any tiling in this area, it will also be an area that can be attractive for mold spores. Using products that include bleach will help to keep tiling and countertops mold and mildew free.

Storage/Warehouse

These areas of your business are also great places for a mold colony to get started. The items you store will often not be moved for long periods of time, and if you have a lot of cardboard and paper packaging, this can also be attractive to spores. Keeping things dry is important here; make sure to handle leaks and drips right away, with that in mind.

Kitchens

Some businesses have kitchens for their employees, and if that is your situation, and if you have kitchen appliances, they will of course involve water. You’ll want to make regular inspections for mold and mildew a priority here, too.

As you establish the top places to check for mold in your business, you will want to establish preventive measures that will help you avoid this issue:

  • Keep all workspaces well-ventilated and dry
  • During the more humid months, a dehumidifier is a great option
  • Make sure exterior doors and windows are adequately sealed
  • When organizing stored items on shelves keep items away from floors and walls
  • Remove any standing water immediately and dry affected areas completely
